Out shopping on Black Friday, we made a stop at the Total Wine in Kennesaw as I needed to find some winter refreshment after spending what seemed like for ever in Old Navy. I had see tweets about Scout by Reformation Brewery being available and was curious to try it.
This 7.4% ABV stout by Reformation makes it appearance in the late fall it seems and is billed as a Festive Stout with “Notes of dark vanilla, cinnamon, and chocolate dominate for a smooth, slightly creamy finish reminiscent of pumpkin pie crusts or snickerdoodle cookies.”
One of the first things I noticed when I poured it was that it did indeed have a nice, rich dark color to it and you could smell the hints of cinnamon and vanilla. Its a very smooth beer that does seem to pair well with a rich dessert. The flavors of chocolate and vanilla are blended well in this and the beer itself warms you as you enjoy it.
It did come in a tad high for me in ABV, at 7.4% I wouldn’t have more than one or two of these in an evening (especially if I had been drinking before this) but its not bad when you want something to warm you up on a cold winter night.
I was pleasantly surprised with this stout and will be making sure that we have some on hand for our annual Christmas dinner.
